Nonprofit and charity receipt template
An acknowledgment is required for any single contribution of $250 or more, and a written disclosure is required for a quid pro quo contribution over $75. The exact sentences matter, and the charity must not value a donated item.

The lines a nonprofit and charity actually bills
These are the preset line items this page loads into the maker. The price bands are typical, not prescriptive — set your own. The tax column is guidance: materials are taxable in most states and service labour often is not, which is a real per-state distinction covered on the state requirements pages.
| Line item | Billed by | Typical | Tax class |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cash contribution | gift | $25 – $5,000 | Not a taxable sale |
| Recurring monthly gift | month | $10 – $250 | Not a taxable sale |
| Event ticket — deductible portion | each | $25 – $500 | Not a taxable sale |
| Event ticket — value of benefit received | each | $25 – $250 | Not a taxable sale |
| Sponsorship | each | $500 – $25,000 | Not a taxable sale |
| In-kind gift — description only | each | no charge | Not a taxable sale |
| Membership dues | year | $25 – $500 | Not a taxable sale |
The format this trade issues
The IRS acknowledgment format: legal name, EIN, date and amount, and the mandatory goods-and-services sentence on its own line.
Get Receipt renders it as Donation receipt — A5 acknowledgement letter format: donor block, gift amount, and the statement that no goods or services were exchanged.
The full field order, alignment grid and physical spec for that format is documented on the donation receipt spec page.
One thing this trade has to carry
A charitable acknowledgment carries the organisation’s legal name and employer identification number.
Common questions
- What are the two mandatory sentences?
- Where nothing was given in return: “No goods or services were provided in exchange for this contribution.” Where something was: a description, an estimated fair market value, and the statement that only the excess over that value is deductible.
- Should the charity value a donated item?
- No. For a non-cash gift the charity describes the property and the donor determines its value. A charity that assigns a dollar figure to a donated item is doing the donor’s job and creating a problem for both.
- What are the dollar thresholds?
- A contemporaneous written acknowledgment is required for any single contribution of $250 or more. A written disclosure statement is required for a quid pro quo contribution over $75.
Card details on this receipt
Get Receipt prints at most four card digits and has no expiry field anywhere in the app. FACTA forbids printing more than the last five digits, or the expiration date at all, on a cardholder receipt — so a violating receipt is not something this tool can be made to produce, by hand or by the assistant.
