Hair salon receipt template
A salon rings up a mix of service and retail on the same ticket, which is exactly where tax gets miscalculated — the shampoo is almost always taxable and the haircut often is not. Tips are added after tax and belong on their own line.

The lines a hair salon actually bills
These are the preset line items this page loads into the maker. The price bands are typical, not prescriptive — set your own. The tax column is guidance: materials are taxable in most states and service labour often is not, which is a real per-state distinction covered on the state requirements pages.
| Line item | Billed by | Typical | Tax class |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cut and finish | each | $35 – $95 | Labour |
| Colour — single process | each | $75 – $160 | Labour |
| Highlights — partial | each | $110 – $220 | Labour |
| Blow-dry and style | each | $30 – $75 | Labour |
| Deep conditioning treatment | each | $25 – $60 | Labour |
| Retail — shampoo | each | $18 – $42 | Goods |
| Retail — styling product | each | $22 – $48 | Goods |
The format this trade issues
An 80 mm counter slip with room for a stylist name and a tip line, which is what a salon POS actually prints.
Get Receipt renders it as Salon appointment receipt — A5 appointment receipt: stylist block, service lines, retail product line, VAT added.
Common questions
- Are salon services taxable?
- In most states personal services are not subject to sales tax while the retail products you sell alongside them are. A handful of states tax personal services explicitly. Retail on a salon ticket is taxable almost everywhere.
- Where does the tip go on a salon receipt?
- After the tax line, on its own line, then the total. Tips are not taxable, so a tip folded into the service price inflates your taxable sales and your liability.
- Should the stylist be named on the receipt?
- Put them in the header info block. It matters for commission reconciliation, for rebooking, and for any dispute about who did the work.
Card details on this receipt
Get Receipt prints at most four card digits and has no expiry field anywhere in the app. FACTA forbids printing more than the last five digits, or the expiration date at all, on a cardholder receipt — so a violating receipt is not something this tool can be made to produce, by hand or by the assistant.
