Convenience store receipt template
One ticket routinely mixes exempt groceries with taxable prepared food, alcohol at a second rate, and a lottery or money-order line that is not a sale at all. Per-line tax flags are how it stays readable.

The lines a convenience store actually bills
These are the preset line items this page loads into the maker. The price bands are typical, not prescriptive — set your own. The tax column is guidance: materials are taxable in most states and service labour often is not, which is a real per-state distinction covered on the state requirements pages.
| Line item | Billed by | Typical | Tax class |
|---|---|---|---|
| Packaged snack | each | $1.50 – $5 | Goods |
| Cold drink | each | $1.50 – $4 | Goods |
| Hot prepared item | each | $2.50 – $8 | Goods |
| Grocery staple | each | $2 – $9 | Not a taxable sale |
| Household item | each | $3 – $12 | Goods |
| Money order fee | each | $1 – $3 | Not a taxable sale |
| Bag fee | each | $0.05 – $0.25 | Goods |
The format this trade issues
An 80 mm tape with per-line tax flags and a taxable/non-taxable subtotal split — the only readable way to show a mixed basket.
Get Receipt renders it as 58 mm compact thermal — The narrow 58 mm kiosk slip: two-line items, tax shown as included in the shelf price, cash tendered and change.
Paid in cash?
No federal rule obliges you to issue a receipt for an ordinary cash sale, but issue one anyway: it is your record as much as the customer’s, and a sequential number that runs across the year is what makes a quarter reconcile. The cash-sale guide covers the three situations that do create a duty.
Common questions
- How do I show a mixed taxable and exempt basket?
- A single-character flag after each line price — T for taxable, F for food, N for non-taxable — plus a legend in the footer and separate taxable and non-taxable subtotals above the tax line.
- Does prepared food need its own rate?
- In many jurisdictions, yes. Prepared food, alcohol and sugary drinks routinely carry a second, higher rate than the general one, which prints as a second named tax line rather than a bigger single one.
- Are money orders and lottery sales taxable?
- The instrument itself is not a taxable sale; the fee may be. Keep the fee on its own line so the tax base is unambiguous.
Card details on this receipt
Get Receipt prints at most four card digits and has no expiry field anywhere in the app. FACTA forbids printing more than the last five digits, or the expiration date at all, on a cardholder receipt — so a violating receipt is not something this tool can be made to produce, by hand or by the assistant.
