Paid in cash?
No federal rule obliges you to issue a receipt for an ordinary cash sale, but issue one anyway: it is your record as much as the customer’s, and a sequential number that runs across the year is what makes a quarter reconcile. The cash-sale guide covers the three situations that do create a duty.
Common questions
- Is cleaning a taxable service?
- Janitorial and cleaning services are enumerated taxable services in several states and exempt in others, and a few tax commercial cleaning while exempting residential. Set the rate by your state and the customer type.
- How should a move-out clean be receipted?
- Itemise it. A move-out clean is usually being submitted to a landlord or an agent against a deposit, and a single-line total is exactly the receipt that gets challenged.
- Do I issue one receipt a month or one per visit?
- Per visit if paid per visit; monthly with a dated line per visit if billed monthly. The rule is that the receipt matches the payment, not the schedule.
Card details on this receipt
