Handyman receipt template

A handyman issues a receipt at the kerb, usually for a cash or transfer payment, and the customer often needs it for a landlord, an insurer or a warranty claim. The document has to separate labour from materials because most states tax the two differently.

The lines a handyman actually bills

These are the preset line items this page loads into the maker. The price bands are typical, not prescriptive — set your own. The tax column is guidance: materials are taxable in most states and service labour often is not, which is a real per-state distinction covered on the state requirements pages.

The format this trade issues

An A5 service document rather than thermal tape: it carries a licence number, a description-of-work paragraph and a PAID IN FULL mark, none of which fit a 48-character grid.

Get Receipt renders it as Freelancer invoice-receipt A5 service invoice-receipt: letterhead, client block, billable lines, bank-transfer settlement.

The full field order, alignment grid and physical spec for that format is documented on the service invoice-receipt spec page.

One thing this trade has to carry

Most states require a contractor or home-improvement licence number on the receipt above a work-value threshold.

Paid in cash?

No federal rule obliges you to issue a receipt for an ordinary cash sale, but issue one anyway: it is your record as much as the customer’s, and a sequential number that runs across the year is what makes a quarter reconcile. The cash-sale guide covers the three situations that do create a duty.

Common questions

Do I have to split labour and materials on a handyman receipt?
Split them whenever your state taxes them differently, which is most of them. Materials are generally taxable; labour on a repair often is not. A single blended line makes it impossible for you or the customer to show which portion tax was charged on.
Does a handyman receipt need a licence number?
Many states and cities require a contractor or home-improvement licence number on estimates, contracts and receipts for work above a dollar threshold. Put it in the header block beside your business name so it is on every document by default.
What does PAID IN FULL actually add?
It converts the document from a request for payment into proof the payment happened, which is the thing a landlord or insurer is looking for. State the method and the date alongside it — cash, check number, or transfer reference.

Card details on this receipt

Get Receipt prints at most four card digits and has no expiry field anywhere in the app. FACTA forbids printing more than the last five digits, or the expiration date at all, on a cardholder receipt — so a violating receipt is not something this tool can be made to produce, by hand or by the assistant.
