Paid in cash?
No federal rule obliges you to issue a receipt for an ordinary cash sale, but issue one anyway: it is your record as much as the customer’s, and a sequential number that runs across the year is what makes a quarter reconcile. The cash-sale guide covers the three situations that do create a duty.
Common questions
- Should a lawn-care receipt list every visit?
- For a monthly invoice-receipt, yes — a dated line per cut is what turns the document into a service record the customer can check. For a single visit paid on the spot, one line and a date is enough.
- Is lawn service taxable?
- It varies. Several states tax landscaping and lawn maintenance as an enumerated service; others tax only the materials. Charge according to your state and state the tax separately either way.
- How do I handle a prepaid season?
- Issue a receipt for the payment received, state the period it covers, and show the balance remaining as visits are drawn down. That is the same structure a rent receipt uses.
Card details on this receipt
