Paid in cash?
No federal rule obliges you to issue a receipt for an ordinary cash sale, but issue one anyway: it is your record as much as the customer’s, and a sequential number that runs across the year is what makes a quarter reconcile. The cash-sale guide covers the three situations that do create a duty.
Common questions
- Is a call-out fee taxable?
- It follows your state’s treatment of repair labour in most cases, because it is a charge for attending rather than for a part. If the fee is waived when work proceeds, show it and the waiver as two lines so the arithmetic is visible.
- How do I prove which parts I fitted?
- Put the part number on the line. A description alone cannot distinguish an OE part from an aftermarket one, and that distinction is what warranty conversations turn on.
- Can I text the receipt?
- Yes. Export it and send it before you leave; keep your own copy. Roadside customers are the ones most likely to need the document later and least likely to keep a paper slip.
Card details on this receipt
