Food truck receipt template
A truck sells prepared food, which frequently carries a second, higher tax rate than the groceries sold two blocks away. The tape is short, the volume is high, and the tax class is the thing that gets it wrong.

The lines a food truck actually bills
These are the preset line items this page loads into the maker. The price bands are typical, not prescriptive — set your own. The tax column is guidance: materials are taxable in most states and service labour often is not, which is a real per-state distinction covered on the state requirements pages.
| Line item | Billed by | Typical | Tax class |
|---|---|---|---|
| Signature item | each | $9 – $16 | Goods |
| Second entree | each | $8 – $15 | Goods |
| Side | each | $3 – $7 | Goods |
| Fountain drink | each | $2 – $4 | Goods |
| Bottled water | each | $1.50 – $3 | Goods |
| Combo discount | each | $1 – $3 | Goods |
| Catering tray | each | $45 – $120 | Goods |
The format this trade issues
A short 80 mm counter slip with a large order number — the number the customer calls out at the window is the most-read thing on the tape.
Get Receipt renders it as Coffee shop counter slip — 80 mm thermal counter slip: centred shop block, drink lines, loyalty QR at the foot.
The full field order, alignment grid and physical spec for that format is documented on the coffee shop quick-service receipt spec page.
Paid in cash?
No federal rule obliges you to issue a receipt for an ordinary cash sale, but issue one anyway: it is your record as much as the customer’s, and a sequential number that runs across the year is what makes a quarter reconcile. The cash-sale guide covers the three situations that do create a duty.
Common questions
- Does prepared food get a different tax rate?
- Often, yes. Many jurisdictions apply a higher prepared-food or restaurant rate than the general rate, and some tax prepared food where groceries are exempt. If you operate across city lines, you may be charging two different rates in one week.
- Do I need a receipt for a $9 sale?
- Not by federal rule, but a per-sale record is what makes your daily reconciliation work. A truck that only knows its cash-drawer total at the end of the night cannot prove its sales mix if anyone asks.
- What about a health-permit number on the receipt?
- Some cities require the mobile food permit number to be displayed; a few want it on the receipt. Put it in the header line and it is on every ticket by default.
Card details on this receipt
Get Receipt prints at most four card digits and has no expiry field anywhere in the app. FACTA forbids printing more than the last five digits, or the expiration date at all, on a cardholder receipt — so a violating receipt is not something this tool can be made to produce, by hand or by the assistant.
