Bar receipt template
Alcohol frequently carries a second, higher tax rate than food, and an open tab means the receipt is issued long after the first drink. The card slip and the tab close are separate records.
Free, no signup, no watermark. PDF, PNG and JPG export at the format’s real paper width.
The lines a bar actually bills
These are the preset line items this page loads into the maker. The price bands are typical, not prescriptive — set your own. The tax column is guidance: materials are taxable in most states and service labour often is not, which is a real per-state distinction covered on the state requirements pages.
| Line item | Billed by | Typical | Tax class |
|---|---|---|---|
| Draught beer | each | $5 – $12 | Goods |
| Bottled beer | each | $4.50 – $10 | Goods |
| House spirit and mixer | each | $7 – $16 | Goods |
| Cocktail | each | $10 – $22 | Goods |
| Wine by the glass | each | $8 – $20 | Goods |
| Soft drink | each | $2.50 – $5 | Goods |
| Bar snack | each | $4 – $12 | Goods |
The format this trade issues
A guest-check format with a tab number in the header and a second tax class for alcohol.
Get Receipt renders it as Restaurant guest check — Table-service guest check with a gratuity line and a customer signature rule under the total.
The full field order, alignment grid and physical spec for that format is documented on the restaurant guest check spec page.
Paid in cash?
No federal rule obliges you to issue a receipt for an ordinary cash sale, but issue one anyway: it is your record as much as the customer’s, and a sequential number that runs across the year is what makes a quarter reconcile. The cash-sale guide covers the three situations that do create a duty.
Common questions
- Does alcohol need its own tax line?
- Where your jurisdiction applies a separate alcohol or on-premise rate, yes — a second named tax line at its own rate, not a blended single line. That is the only way the printed lines can be checked against the total.
- When is the receipt issued on an open tab?
- At tab close. The intermediate authorisation is a pre-auth, not a sale, and receipting a pre-auth amount as if it were the final total is how a card dispute starts.
- Should the bartender be named?
- In the info block, yes. Tab disputes and comp reconciliation both turn on who rang the sale.
Card details on this receipt
Get Receipt prints at most four card digits and has no expiry field anywhere in the app. FACTA forbids printing more than the last five digits, or the expiration date at all, on a cardholder receipt — so a violating receipt is not something this tool can be made to produce, by hand or by the assistant.
